ABOUT

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a statutory body established by the Government of India in 1987 with the aim of promoting and regulating technical education in the country. Its headquarters is located in New Delhi.

The AICTE is responsible for planning, formulation, and maintenance of norms and standards for technical education in India. It also provides financial assistance to institutions for promoting qualitative improvements in technical education. The Council is mandated to approve new technical institutions and courses, and to supervise their functioning through monitoring and evaluation.

Some of the key functions of the AICTE are:

  1. To promote technical education in the country and ensure its quality and relevance.
  2. To grant approval for new technical institutions and courses.
  3. To develop norms and standards for technical education.
  4. To provide grants-in-aid to institutions for promoting qualitative improvements in technical education.
  5. To provide guidance and counseling to institutions for improving their performance.
  6. To conduct research and development in technical education.
  7. To collaborate with other organizations in India and abroad for promoting technical education.

The AICTE is headed by a Chairman, who is appointed by the Government of India. The Council has a full-time Vice-Chairman, a Member-Secretary, and other members who are experts in various fields related to technical education.
